Hello, and welcome to Dreaming Tree Counseling! My name is Brooke Towns (she/her/hers), and I am the practice owner and a fully Licensed Master's Level Social Worker (LMSW) who graduated from the University of Michigan's School of Social Work in 2015.
I first began my psychotherapy practice in 2014 while interning at a residential treatment facility for at risk youth in rural Northern Michigan. I continued my journey working with traumatized children and youth at Lenawee Community Mental Health.
Over the past seven years, I have worked with individuals in the family court system, the community mental health realm, the school systems, and in private practice. My time serving individuals in these settings taught me that trauma does not discriminate, and that much of the pain and isolation I had witnessed was a result of unresolved traumatic stress..
It was my experiences learning from these individuals that sparked my passion for trauma work and led me to become a therapist specializing in treating Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, among various other mental heath issues.
I have since gone on to pursue training in various trauma modalities including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, mindfulness and somatic body work, ego state therapy, Internal Family Systems, and structural dissociation models.

I, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, have a passion for working with this population and strive to provide a safe and affirming environment in which to explore, process, heal, and grow.
I am also able to provide letters of referral for gender-affirming procedures. I believe in helping individuals work towards their goals and feel strongly about each individual's right to be their true and authentic self.
